Dear Friend,

Since coming to Congress in 2011 I have been committed to making sure our veterans receive all the support and services they need and were promised. Recently, Congress passed a bill to fund the government through September(HR 3547), with my support. This bill includes an important provision to ensure medically retired veterans and surviving families receive the full benefits they are due. This provision provides an important first step in addressing the cuts to the cost of living adjustment(COLA)for our medically retired military retirees. We still need to fix how these adjustments are calculated, and allow for an increase in payments for military retirees.

The bill also includes important funding for Veterans Affairs, including funding for VA Medical services, employment training, and initiatives to end the disability claims backlog.

We owe our active duty, reserve, National Guard service, and retired veteran men and women our full support for their sacrifice on behalf of our country. Our retired veterans deserve not only our deep respect and gratitude, but action in ensuring that all promises made to them are fully honored. While this bill does not address all our military retiree pension issues, I will continue to fight to ensure that these issues are dealt with.

While traveling in the 1st Congressional District I’ve had the opportunity to meet a number of veterans and hear their stories. My office is also pleased to assist veterans with VA claims and dealing with other federal agencies. If you or someone you know needs help do not hesitate to contact my office at 304-284-8506. You can rest assured I will continue to fight for our service members and veterans.

Sincerely,

David B. McKinley, P.E.
