Dear Friend,

Today marks the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion on demand. As we recognize this anniversary we must continue to work together to promote a culture of life and defend the God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. For the past three years, I have worked with likeminded Members of Congress to advance pro-life legislation and protect the unborn.

Just last week, Congress passed, with my support, a bill funding the government through September 2014. This bill includes important provisions to ban federal funding for abortions including:  prohibiting funding for elective abortions in programs like Medicaid, reducing funding for Title X Family Planning, and Planned Parenthood, and retained the Helms amendment which prohibits abortion funding in foreign aid.

This was just the latest pro-life legislation advanced by the House of Representatives. Last year the House passed H.R. 1797, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which prohibits an abortion from being performed if the unborn child is 20 weeks or older. I was proud to be an original cosponsor and vote in favor of this bill.

Since coming to Congress, I have cosponsored and supported several bills such as ending taxpayer funded abortions, declaring the sanctity of human life, and the respect of the rights of conscience which would remove the mandate for insurance providers to cover contraceptives.  As bills come forth in the 113th Congress, I will continue to support the sanctity of life and vote for pro-life legislation.
