House Passes McKinley Bill to Spur Economic Development

On Thursday, the house of Representatives voted to pass my legislation to improve the Brownfields Program. The bill had incredible bipartisan support, and passed on a vote of 409-8. The Brownfields Program is designed to empower states, communities, and other stakeholders in economic redevelopment to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields, which are abandoned industrial sites. These properties are an eyesore to communities and are a barrier to economic development. For those sites that qualify under this program, this bill will speed up our ability to mitigate the environmental hazards present and transform those sites into productive use. Across the Northern Panhandle and the rest of West Virginia we have hundreds of these sites, and the Brownfields Program has been an important tool to turn these abandoned eyesores into economic opportunity.

Pastor Jon Lands of Vienna Serves as Guest Chaplain of the House

On Thursday, Jon Lands, senior pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna, served as guest chaplain for the House of Representatives. I was honored to have arranged his participation, and to have introduced him on the floor of the House. He has overseen a period of tremendous growth at Fellowship Baptist, is a noted author, and is a dedicated servant to the community.

West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Visits Washington

On Wednesday, the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce visited our offices in Washington. It was great to hear from the representatives for West Virginia's small businesses on the tax reform legislation and other priorities to grow our local economy.

McKinley Gives Speech Honoring Dr. Robert Martino

On Wednesday, I gave a speech on the House floor honoring Dr. Robert Martino of Clarksburg. In 2013, Dr. Martino generously offered one day of free dental services to local active duty military and their families, and he has continued to do this once a year. He has spread this idea throughout his networks. Over 500 business nationwide now participate, offering everything from dental work to accounting services. It has become known as Freedom Day USA.
