Repealing and Replacing Obamacare

All across America, working families have been facing soaring premiums, skyrocketing deductibles, and limited choices because of Obamacare. I have listened to constituents and stakeholders who have raised concerns about the current healthcare system and one thing has been made perfectly clear: it’s collapsing. Families are not getting the care they need because they can’t afford the costs. Obamacare has become a train wreck and doing nothing for these working families is completely unacceptable.

On Thursday the House took an important step towards keeping our promise to reform healthcare. Now, as the legislative process continues, the Senate has the opportunity to review and modify the bill accordingly. Most assuredly, the final bill will be a compromise between the House and Senate versions. Everyone deserves access to affordable, quality healthcare coverage and that is exactly what we are trying to deliver.

Protecting Miners’ Health Benefits

This week, Congress voted to permanently extend healthcare coverage for tens of thousands of miners and their families whose benefits were under threat. This permanent fix is great news for all of the hardworking miners and family members who have been constantly worried about losing the healthcare benefits they earned. For six years, we’ve been leading this fight and I am pleased that we were able to get it done. Coal mining families deserve peace of mind and know that their healthcare benefits will no longer be threatened.

While this development on healthcare is welcome news, we must continue the fight to protect coal miner pensions. I look forward to leading this bipartisan effort in the House.

Prioritizing Medical Research

It was a great honor to speak with research advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.  Everyone has been impacted by this terrible disease. One of my priorities has always been to make sure NIH and NCI have the resources they need to focus on research, which is why I was recently pleased to see that NIH funds will increase by $2 billion. Cancer research saves lives. Let's continue to fight together until we find a cure!
