Putting a Stop to Obama’s Anti-Coal Legacy

This week the House passed a Congressional Review Act(CRA)sponsored by Congressman McKinley to stop a damaging rule imposed by the lame duck Obama administration that could have cost almost 80,000 coal miners their jobs. This rule was nothing more than an attempt to drive the coal industry out of business. Fortunately, we were able to build support to stop it. On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor in support of our CRA. You can view my remarks, here

The resolution passed the Senate and now it is on its way to the White House for President Trump’s signature. As Chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Coal Caucus, stopping a rule that is so harmful to our hardworking coal miners has been one of my top priorities.

On Tuesday evening President Trump nominated Tenth Circuit Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court Justices are the guardians of our Constitution. President Trump pledged to the American people that he would appoint a conservative constitutionalist to the Court and Neil Gorsuch’s record reflects that he will not legislate from the bench. The Senate should begin confirmation hearings shortly so he can take his seat with the other eight Justices.

Strengthening Our Borders

The current chaos and instability around the world along with the mass murder we have recently witnessed in European cities have proven that secure borders and a strong vetting process are necessary tools to defeating terrorism in the 21st century. We must not allow anyone who wishes to do us harm to slip through the cracks.

I support President Trump’s executive action and believe that any moratoriums should be lifted as soon as stronger vetting mechanisms have been put into place by the new Administration. The United States can and will continue to remain the world’s most compassionate nation while doing everything it can to protect the American people.

Celebrating President Reagan

Next Monday is President Ronald Reagan’s 106th birthday. President Reagan was a man of great character who understood that the United States was the world’s greatest force for good. He championed individual liberty and limited government. While he was President, we rebuilt our military and saw strong economic growth. On Monday, please remember the wonderful contributions of our 40th President.

WVU Update: Go Mountaineers!

Both the men and women’s basketball teams continue to be two of the best in the country. The men are currently ranked #7 in the latest AP Poll and take on Oklahoma State at 5:00 PM. The women are ranked #22  in the nation and will be facing Iowa St at Noon. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going. Let’s go Mountaineers!

Have a great weekend!
