Meeting With Top NASA Officials

On Tuesday we welcomed NASA Administrator Major General Charles Bolden, Jr, and other top NASA officials to Fairmont before joining them in a briefing at the NASA IV&V facility and participating in a discussion about the role the facility plays and the importance of diversifying West Virginia’s economy.

NASA’s mission is extremely important and we must continue support its growth and expand its presence in Fairmont. Along with other federal agencies that have decided to locate in the region, NASA serves as a linchpin for job creation and economic growth. Investing in research and new technologies will help grow the number of good paying jobs and keep America on top as the world’s innovative leader. To see news coverage of this event, click here

Fighting Obama's Last Minute Attack on Coal Workers

On Monday, the Obama Administration moved to finalize the Stream Protection Rule(SPR), an overreaching regulation that further limits and restricts coal mining. This action is outrageous.  The SPR is yet another attack on the coal industry and this Administration’s final shot in the “War on Coal” before President Obama leaves office.  The implementation of this rule would result in a decrease of up to 85% in coal reserves, threatening the livelihoods of 80,000 coal miners and their families.

Fortunately, this regulation will be promptly overturned.  After meeting with House Leadership and members of the incoming Trump Administration, I am confident that Congress and the President-elect will block this rule before it can cause more harm to the hard working families of the coal industry. Visiting the Children’s Home of Wheeling

The Children’s Home of Wheeling has been advocating and fighting for West Virginia families for many years.  On Wednesday, Mary and I paid them a visit, met with many of the children in their program, and thanked the staff members for their efforts. Whether it is through tutoring, family counseling, or work to overcome substance abuse, the Children’s Home of Wheeling plays an important role in our area and our office is very grateful for its work.
