Easter Weekend
This holiday may be different than previous ones. Many of us are unable to spend Easter with our families and loved ones due to COVID19. Still, we are in this together and will get through this.

Mary and I wish you and your families a happy and safe Easter weekend!

First Wave of CARES Act Funding

Earlier today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced funding of $30 billion from the CARES Act will be provided to hospitals. The funding is broken up among each state and West Virginia will receive almost $250 million. Health care professionals are on the front-lines battling COVID19 and are providing essential care and treatment to patients. This critical funding will offer relief to them and support our health care providers. I will make sure West Virginia continues receiving this much-needed funding.

Speaking with Community Bankers
Yesterday, I hosted a conference call with community bankers and U.S. House Financial Services Ranking Member, Patrick McHenry to answer questions about the Paycheck Protection Program and other COVID19 loan programs for small businesses. Congress will continue to work with the Small Business Administration and bankers to help small businesses access these critical loans.

Did you complete the 2020 census?
I completed the census, did you? The national average rate of completion is 36.2%, whereas in West Virginia the rate is 24.6%. When you respond to the census, you help your community gets its fair share of money per year in federal funds spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs. Complete the census online, by mail, or call-in so you can be counted!

CDC Recommendations
We encourage everyone to follow the CDC recommendations on how to help protect yourself and others.

Take these steps to protect yourself:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, which the chorus to Country Roads lasts about that long.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% of alcohol.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in the community.
Take these steps to protect others:
  • Stay home if you are except to receive medical care.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues and throw away the tissue.
  • Clean and disinfect touched surface areas daily.
