Rep. McKinley Speaks on the Importance of Grid Reliability
The Energy and Commerce Committee has spoken often on grid reliability and last congress we had a number of hearings on the topic, but it’s not just the energy and commerce committee that has concerns with grid reliability and resiliency. This week at a hearing about “Keeping The Lights On Addressing Cyber Threats To The Grid,”  I had the chance to share a report from the National Energy Technology Laboratory said that without the resilience of coal, the Eastern US would have suffered widespread blackouts during the 2018 bomb cyclone.

The National Defense Authorization Act
For nearly 60 years The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has been bipartisan, but this year House Democrats have decided to play politics instead of doing what's right for our nation's armed forces. The Senate overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan NDAA bill, but instead of taking up the Senate package or something similar, House Democrats have brought forward a partisan bill.

Honoring Our Lineworkers
America’s line workers are often forgotten and underappreciated, but day in and day out they put themselves in danger to ensure that we have access to reliable electricity for our homes, hospitals, and businesses. These men and women power one of our nation’s most critical infrastructure components. It’s an honor to join with Congresswoman Sánchez and Congressman Norcross on this resolution to honor these brave workers who put their lives on the line to serve our communities and the American people.

Following up with ChalleNGe Program Graduates

The ChalleNGe program is a unique twenty-two-week voluntary residential program operated by National Guards across the country. This program has helped thousands of at-risk high school student obtain their GED or graduate from high school. My amendment, which passed the House as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, will allow the Department of Defense to track the success of the young men and woman who go through this program.
