Office of Rep. McKinley Hits Constituent Milestone
Our office recently completed and opened over 8,000 constituent cases. When a constituent needs help with a federal agency, whether it’s securing benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs or more recently helping secure Economic Impact Payments from the IRS, our staff has stepped in to help them find a resolution to their issue.

Reaching a milestone this big is an not easy task, and I want to take a moment and thank our dedicated Caseworkers: Linda Wooldridge and Jillian Kinder in Morgantown and Robert “Bob” Villers in Parkersburg. From the time a call comes in from a constituent who needs help, they’re on the ball. They’re vigilant and don’t take “no” for an answer from a federal agency. They have been so successful in their constituent advocacy that they often have people from outside of the district calling them for help.

Our office is here to serve the First District, and we look forward to the next 8,000 cases we can help resolve.

West Virginia Strong - The Comeback Plan
Last month, Governor Jim Justice announced his plan for reopening the economy. Reopening will not happen suddenly, but with time. We should be able to open in a safe and cautious manner as long as we continue to follow the social distancing guidelines.

Phase one began on Thursday, April 30th. From there, each phase of the reopening process for Weeks 2-6 will begin on Monday of each subsequent week. Currently, we are in week 7 of the reopening phase. COVID-19 case numbers will continue to be monitored throughout the entire reopening process.

The STAY-AT-HOME order was lifted on Sunday, May 3rd and a SAFER-AT-HOME was put in place on Monday, May 4th.

Week 7 businesses that opened this week:
  • Low contact outdoor youth sports
  • WVSSAC-sanctioned athletics and band summer camps
  • Little league sports practices
  • All remaining adult sport facilities
  • Private campgrounds and State Park campgrounds, cabins, and lodges to out-of-state guests.

Woody Williams
This week, I joined my colleagues in sending a letter to President Trump recommending Hershel "Woody" Williams, a West Virginia native, a Marine Veteran, and Medal of Honor recipient to receive the Medal of Freedom for his incredible work through the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. As a Veteran of World War II and the five-week campaign on Iwo Jima, Corporal Woody Williams Corporal has dedicated his life to honoring our veterans and Gold Star families. I appreciate the President’s consideration for this great honor. Woody is a true American hero.

ICYMI: Jobs Report
Last month saw the biggest job increase ever of 2.5 million. The unemployment rate fell to 13.3% where predictions were the rate would be just under 20% of unemployment which would have been the highest since the Great Depression era. This is a sign our economy is starting to recover and more quickly than predicted.
