America Depends of Fossil Resources for More Than 80 Percent of Our Energy Needs
Today, Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at continuing vital funding for research and development at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown, W.Va.
“This critical research provides great benefits for our environment and energy security, plus it keeps energy prices for consumers affordable while leading to energy independence,” said Rep. McKinley. “Funding for NETL results in affordable, safe and clean ways to enhance and utilize our domestic fossil fuels.”
The Department of Energy’s Fossil Energy Research and Development Program supports more than 1,000 projects that contribute nearly $7 billion dollars annually to the American economy and supports more than 55,000 jobs nationwide.
“The program, based in Morgantown, W.Va., is currently developing advanced technologies to support a competitive future for our low cost coal and gas resources for use in power generation and industries around the world,” added McKinley. “It also strengthens America’s global industrial competitiveness.”
