Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) issued the following statement on President Obama’s threat to veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which has passed the House and the Senate with bipartisan support:

“The House and Senate have passed a bipartisan bill that provides the resources our military needs to keep us safe, makes needed reforms to save taxpayer money, and ensures our troops get the benefits they deserve. Yet President Obama has announced he plans to veto it.

“President Obama is not threatening a veto because of a disagreement over policies in the defense bill, but rather because he wants to spend more money on other non-defense programs. In short, the President is holding the military hostage so he can spend more money on pet projects.

“At a time when we face threats from terrorists, rogue nations, and cybercriminals, the President should not be playing an irresponsible political game. The American people deserve better.”
