Congressman David McKinley held a roundtable discussion with Monongalia County law enforcement agencies on Monday.

During this roundtable discussion, McKinley met with five local police chiefs and the sheriff at the Morgantown Public Safety Complex.

McKinley said he wanted to get their input on the criminal justice reform legislation that is currently in Washington waiting to be passed. McKinley also said that the conversation eventually turned toward the opioid epidemic in the state, and how to combat it.

"I want to make sure that criminal justice reform and sentencing reform, let's hear from people who deal with this problem on a day-to-day basis, not have a bunch of lawyers in Washington tell us what we need to do. Let's hear it from people that have to deal with it on the street, and they gave us some good ideas we'll be able to take back and work with that," McKinley said.

Additionally, McKinley said that law enforcement officers are telling him that most of the drugs found on the street are coming in from overseas.
