The United Mine Workers of America held an inauguration of officers Thursday in Morgantown.

The United Mine Workers Association (UMWA) is a labor union best known for representing coal miners.

International president Cecil Roberts and International treasurer Levi Allen spoke to the crowd.

Congressman David McKinley, Association of Flight Attendants CWA president Sara Nelson, and AFL CIO president Richard Trumka were special guest speakers.

"This was a chance to celebrate. Cecil Roberts is a true icon in the labor movement. He has been an inspiration for a lot of groups all across this country. And to be head of the UMWA, to be sworn in now for another five year term, this is important for the movement to be able to continue," said Congressman David McKinley.

The entire UMWA International Executive Board was sworn in for a four year term of office.
