Congressional Republicans will focus on five priorities this session, a U.S. representative from West Virginia said Thursday.The five primary areas will set the stage for the Republican legislative initiatives for 2016 and into 2017, U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., said.The priorities were reached at a recent Republican retreat, McKinley said, and are: focusing on national security including the threat from ISIS, military spending and revisions to the War Powers Act; economic growth through tax and regulatory reforms to encourage companies to develop in America rather than overseas; an alternative to the Affordable Care Act; reducing poverty in the United States; and Constitutional changes better clarifying the equal powers of the three branches of government.

McKinley Votes to Stop EPA Power Grab

Today the House passed a bill to stop the controversial Obama Administration regulation to expand the EPA's authority over water and wetlands. The regulation, also known as "Waters of the U.S.," would give the EPA more power to regulate bodies of water, including streams, drainage ditches and puddles. Previously their jurisdiction only applied to "navigable waters" like rivers and lakes.

Today the House voted to repeal President Obama's flawed health care law and stop taxpayer dollars from going to fund disturbing practices at Planned Parenthood. "Today Congress used a unique procedural approach to break the obstruction and gridlock and send this bill to President Obama's desk," said McKinley. "Now the American public will be able to see clearly who is responsible for higher premiums, less choice, and more government control over their health care."
